|intersex scholar-activist|
My name is Georgiann Davis and I am an intersex scholar-activist whose research, teaching, and activism are at the intersection of institutional violence and feminist theories. I have written numerous articles on intersex in various outlets ranging from Ms. Magazine to the American Journal of Bioethics.
In my first award-winning book, Contesting Intersex: The Dubious Diagnosis (2015, NYU Press), I explore how intersex is defined, experienced, and contested in contemporary U.S. society.
My new research-driven memoir, Five Star White Trash: A Memoir of Fraud and Family, is a one-of-a-kind account of how whiteness shapes interaction with various types of abuse—medical deception, legal revictimization, and familial trauma.
I am a former board president of interACT: Advocates for Intersex Youth (2017-2020) and a past-president of InterConnect, formerly known as the AIS-DSD Support Group (2014-2015).
*The written and verbal views I express are my own and not those of my affiliations.
